"there is no good writing, only good re-writing."

So you have written the piece of work that you hope will catch the eye and remain in the memory of your target audience, be that a competition judge, agent, or perhaps just family and friends.

A good critique could be the difference between your writing being short-listed or rejected. Receiving valuable feedback and acting accordingly will give your work the wow factor that stops it fading from the memory before the first paragraph has been read.

This is where WordPlay comes in.

Our critiquers are, first and foremost, writers themselves. This means that each and everyone is fully aware of the hard work and time commitment you will have put into your blossoming masterpiece.

They also know that a final examination of your work by an independent and experienced eye, accompanied by powerful feedback, will enable you to perfect your penmanship.

All our critiquers are WordPlay accredited, and regularly monitored for quality of feedback. Above all else, a WordPlay Critique of your work will be honest and helpful.

The critique is based on ten criteria:

Plot; pace; voice; writing style; conflict; characterisation; dialogue; theme and setting; format and grammar; and readability.

A WordPlay critique will point to what’s good and what’s not, what works well, and what doesn’t, and give reasons and possible solutions. Of course, these solutions will only be suggestions and we would hope they also encourage your own ideas along the suggested lines of revision.

Our tick sheet critique will cover these points in an easily defineable way, whilst an in-depth critique will give more specific details and distinct suggestions for improvement.

As you can imagine, a good critique takes time. However, we guarantee that your critique will be completed and emailed to you within four weeks of its receipt at WordPlay.
